Welcome

I want our School to be a place where our children feel safe and secure, somewhere they enjoy coming to, where they feel valued by the people they meet, where the lessons and experiences are challenging and exciting and where they work hard to make the very best of all their skills and talents.

At Upper Rhymney Primary School we share a commitment to learning and succeeding together through an holistic approach that surrounds the child and family, and reflects the school as a strong learning community. We believe that by working together as a team and consulting with all our stakeholders, everyone feels valued and included - a key factor for school improvement.

I am privileged to work with an excellent team of people who have a passion for working with children, who understand the ever-changing needs of education and children, and who work incredibly hard to achieve the very best we can for all the children in our school.

I thoroughly enjoy working within this community – the children are inspiring and have an incredible warmth, and the families are very supportive of the school, working with us to develop our school community every day.

Our School Vision

Our whole school community worked together to build our school vision and aims:

We asked ourselves 2 simple questions:

¢What do we want our children to look like when they leave school?
¢What do we need to do as a school community to ensure they get there?

Our vision at Upper Rhymney Primary School is to build on a firm foundation of relationships and wellbeing within the school community, including all stakeholders – children, parents, governors and staff.

We pride ourselves on our passion for creating an inspiring and nurturing environment, based on fairness, inclusivity and collaboration, in order for all to succeed as ambitious, resilient and independent, lifelong learners.

Through working together we will:

¢Maintain high expectations for all through fun and creative experiences
¢Inspire children to aspire and believe in themselves
¢Foster love and support to ensure a happy, healthy and safe environment
¢Acknowledge and celebrate achievement
¢Develop together as ethical, responsible and respectful members of our community and wider world

At Upper Rhymney we pride ourselves on being a ‘Learning Family’ in the sense that we are supportive and encouraging of all our members and have processes that ensure all stakeholders have a voice in decision-making. We ensure that everyone has the same chances and opportunities irrespective of race, sex, class or disability. We believe that by working together and consulting with all our stakeholders, everyone feels valued and included - a key factor for school improvement. Our successful vision is reflected in the school motto:

“Together We Learn, Together We Succeed”.

Rhymney is a former mining community - the school, Church and high street shops sit at the centre of the community. Nearly all pupils come from the catchment area and nearly all pupils come from non-Welsh speaking families.

Upper Rhymney Primary School’s ethos and pastoral support for pupils, and the high quality inclusion for pupils with ALN, have been recognised by Estyn and other agencies as a significant strength of the school.

The school works hard within the community and maintains a high profile. There are excellent links with a range of outside agencies, embracing the expertise and encouraging professional development of all staff.
